Angiedw's in a Motel in Kentucky!

The obstacle in our path

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway.

The peasant learned what many of us never understand! Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition

We made it back home from Missouri this morning. The closer that we came to Illinois the more dense was the ice covering. I swear Southern Illinois resembles (in my mind's eye) the ice age. Trees are bent, snapped and broken all along the highway and in yards. The road leading to my house has a crystal canopy of trees sheltering the way. If the trees are pushed much more by the ice's weight, our road will be impassable. My poor Magnolia looks pitiful.

On the bright side, the horses' water had not frozen, and they have enough to last for a couple of days. In the meantime we will try to figure out a way to get water to them. This will be no easy chore! Also, my kitties survived the night and were happy to see me. I loved and petted them, cleaned their litter, added to their water from a jug that I had brought, and made sure that they had plenty of food. I hated leaving them again but felt much better knowing that they can stand much more than what I had given them credit for. We will return home again in the morning to check on everything and every critter.

aww, you were on my home turf. Hope you liked it. Pictures after an Ice storm are always incredible, but the damage it does is unreal!Surprised

I am on your home turf--we are in the area--Land Between the Lakes. There is very little ice here, but Paducah has its share, not as much as So. Illinois.

It's great to hear your all alright.Whew!! I'm happy your kitty's were well,I kinda knew they would be.I love both cats and dogs, but for some reason from my own experience cats seem to be more of a survivor.Maybe because of their independence...

Great post and pritty picture Angie.. Stay Safe.. Thank You for keeping us updated..  :-)

I will be so happy when things are finally back to normal. I hate being away from home, and I hate leaving my little critters!

That ice storm was a doozy and definitely walloped you guys! Glad the horses and the kitties are okay, and the house. I'll pray for the magnolia and for your electricity. Do you have an electric pump on your water/well? Eeeeks. Do stay safe, my friend, and may things improve rapidly. [HEART]

Everything is electric! We are in the market for a generator, but so is everyone else.

I know what you mean Angie.I love being in my own home too.

I would hate leaving my furry family too..

I hope your able to return home soon.Oh how happy all of you will be!!!

Was the inside of the house really, really cold? What a time you have had,Huh?! As long as all of you are safe, thats what counts!!! Poor Magnolia tree, might recover very well and be more beautiful that ever..We don't have them up here, just to cold... :-)

It was in the 50's in the house at noon. I have no idea what it will be this morning after temps in the teens last night.

It sounds waaaaay too cold and nasty for me!  I promise I will not complain about the wind and rain we've been having (after a snowy start that seems to have all washed away).  The animals should be fine, especially if you are able to continue to check in on them and monitor things.  But, you are the one who needs to be careful...slippery, cold, dangerous stuff there!  So, take it easy, ok?

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

You are right. We have had several taken to the hospital for having fallen. Many shelters have been set up for warming places and have had some deaths due to toxic gases. Soon----------I will be home for good, not just a visit.

Winter is just the pitz, my friend. I remember the horse-frozen-water days, too !

The ice storm has been making the news here in Florida.I get cold just looking at the pictures!

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

I noticed that Flordia was on Nature's radar. How is the weather there. I thought that storms were on their way. We have two more fronts coming-Friday and the first of the week. Weather people do not thik that they wll be as bad.

When I kept horses on my Tenn farm years ago, I would have to carry them water from the house a couple times a year....some years more.

One year my water hydrant in the barn froze and broke off in my hand.

When I shut off our water main, our house pipes froze and burst, costing

several hundred dollars to get fixed. Rough memories !

You are very close to my stomping ground, I lived in Princeton, not far from Paducah and closer to land between the lakes. AngieSmile

Tomorrow, we will have to haul the water. I suggested one of those tanks that you can transport water in. We will have to borrow a friend's trailer to haul it.

I love that boulder in the road story. What a great moral for all of us.

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

I'm glad that you liked it. I think of this ice storm as being one of my boulders! I will move that big rascal!

What a wonderful way to look at what you're going through, Angie.  Am I allowed to say that I feel proud of you for some weird reason?!  You're definitely in our thoughts and we're all rooting for you.

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

Thank you, I value you and your comments and appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Awww you were in the land between the lakes and Paducah.  You were in the area where my Mom (Bluegrasslady) is from.  We still have family there and have made many a trip out there and back over the years.  I love visiting there but, maybe not right now this time of the year.

I don't think that there is much prettier country anywhere and such friendly people--Bible Belt to boot. Tell your mom also. I am unable to reply to her comment for some reason. Now is not a good time to visit unless you're seeking refuge from sundry storms!

  • mellowdee said 9 months ago

Whew... glad to hear that your kitties survived. What an awful ordeal. Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon.

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

Today when I checked on them, the house was even colder. I feel so sorry for them. They are managing well but can't understand what is going on. Hopefully by this weekend the electric power will be up and running. As of this morning, there were still 3500 of my electric cooperative's consumers without power.

Smile  That peasant had to be a REPUBLICAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Laughing

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

    Explain please.

  • JOEZsREPUBLICANPAGE said 9 months ago

Smile  Republicans  are willing to do something that will not only help himself , but make life better for others ,even if he does not know who they may be , a democrat or a republican , he does it to help all mankind  without asking for anything in  return, so the coins from the king was truly a blessing , just as a young man is willing to go into battle , he does it for his COUNTRY  not just his fanily at home but for the country as a whole !!Smile
