Subject: Fw: REGARDLESS OF PARTY AFFILIATION

Subject: REGARDLESS OF PARTY AFFILIATION

THIS JUST ABOUT SAYS IT ALL, IF EVERY VOTER, REGARDLESS OF PARTY AFFILIATION VOTED TO GET RID OF THE CURRENT MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, WHAT A WAKE UP CALL IT WOULD BE TO ALL THE OTHERS IN GOVERNMENT,   I AM!!!!!!

THE 545 PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR AMERICA'S WOES
BY CHARLEY REESE

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vot e on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 300 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton- picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.

No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a SPEAKER, who stood up and criticized G.W. BUSH for creating deficits.

The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes.
Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto.

REPLACE THE SCOUNDRELS

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility.

I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in IRAQ, it's because they want them in IRAQ.

There are no insoluble government proble ms. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power.

Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees. We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess.

"Vote all of them out of office"----I wish!  But even the very selection of candidates is rigged:  what kind of a choice is Shrub vs. Gore (just for example)?  And people like Oprah have tremendous propaganda power as well.  No, it's just as Jacques Barzun wrote:  regardless of the form of gov't., ultimately power always rests with an oligarchy.  It is no different in our "democracy."

(See my last comment over @ Jim Beers' blog:  it fits right in with this.)

I know what you say is true and that the above is unrealistic. However, it is nice to think that we do live in a democracy that is based upon the people's voices. Idealism--your name is Angie!

  • magicdragonfly2 said 9 months ago

YES! YES! and YES!!! to all of the above..........I've been saying this for months........

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

    Is anyone listening!!!!!!!!!!???????????

  • magicdragonfly2 said 9 months ago

    Some!!

So many are caught up in everyday living, making ends meet,etc..I believe some don't understand they can do something about it by voting, and voting again.....I think some believe  it is what it is,and they have no say in anything...Sad to say...

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

I just wonder when it is all said and done, if voting is really the solution or any solution at all.

  • magicdragonfly2 said 9 months ago

I know what your saying here.I've wondered that too.We are seeing all this lesson on how our vote's count unfolding now in this upcoming election...Sure does make one wonder if you and I count at all in the scope of things!!!

I do fear for me,our "middle class" in this country..We were at one time what kept this country up and going.. Scary to think we might be on the way out!!!

I'd hate the thought of giving up our right to vote and have that vote counted...

I saw a quote last night, "The engery of America is like the sap in a tree. The sap goes from the bottom up." Our nation's ruling class has done its best to destroy or lay defenseless the middle class. However, by doing so they have jeopardized the strength of the country.

  • magicdragonfly2 said 9 months ago

Very scary, but a true to fact quote !!!

More of us should read and understand what that quote is means!!

David Boren, a former powerful Democratic Senator from Oklahoma and  now the President of OU, is so disgusted he formed a committee to consider running an independent for President.  He made the statement that when he was in the Senate that people would vote across party lines for the better good of all.  Now,  legislators are so galvanized along party lines that whichever party controls the respective house controls the vote.

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

It seems rather childish to me--the good of the nation should be of primary importance.

Time to get involved, folks. Get informed, get involved and work for the change you want to see in the world.

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

I agree--back on the soap box!

These men of ours! I am back at home now. The electricity came back on last night at 11:30. We came back this morning to a warm house--dirty but beautiful to me! The temp is somewhat warmer and the bad weather is holding off for now!

  • oldfatguy said 9 months ago

It is too bad that not al 545 are up for election at the same time, maybe it would shake and wake up the $$ powerbrokers  in control????

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

    That's a nice thought!

  • donnamg said 9 months ago

We vote to replace a few bad ones with what we hope are better ones, but there are those who are not up for re-election or elimination at that same time.  The few good that are mixed in with the new "batch" are quickly "absorbed" into the more seasoned party "fold".  (The others from the batch soon show their true colors as they "side" with the party or whoever instead of following what's best for the people).  Nothing can be done until the next election, which always has a smaller turn-out because the presidential seat is not at stake.  No big movement, no big change.  A real house cleaning (that's a pun, folks, because I also mean a good senate cleaning) is needed in one (1) election sweeping, with each member up for periodical review by the people who put him/her there.  (I don't know if this is even possible or would make a difference.  It's just a thought that occurred to me as I continue to struggle to find a logical explanation for all that is wrong and how best to fix it.)

  • angiedw said 9 months ago

But accountability is moot in our society. That is a wonderful idea--periodic review. Of course, it would never happen--the power would really be in the hands of the people. Foolish girl, you're talking democracy!
