With the arrival of spring comes the growth of the grass and the onset of the mowing season and the never ending yardwork. Little looks and smells as nicely as a freshly mowed lawn. However, the dandelions are also back in full force. Some find these very irritating and go at great lengths to destroy them. But they are hardy little flowers and create a multitude of seeds that the wind carries to the ends of the earth.
I remember the joy that my children found in this simple little flower. I can't count the number of dandelion bouquets that I received from them, handed to me with such joy and reverence. Then when the flower turned into a seed pod, the children would play with them as they would with a bubble maker, blowing those tiny seed, aiding the wind in scattering them.
Of course there is also the dandelion wine. Although I have never tasted the juice of the little flower, I have been told that it is very good. I suppose after drinking of the brew, some wouldn't give a hoot how many of the little flowers were gowing in their lawns!
So if there are some out in cyberland feeling very antagonistic toward those yellow terrors, here is a little story to help you through your pain.
The problem with dandelions
A man who took great pride in his lawn found himself with a large crop of dandelions. He tried every method he knew to get rid of them. Still they plagued him.
Finally he wrote to the Department of Agriculture. He enumerated all the things he had tried and closed his letter with the question: "What shall I do now?"
In due course, the reply came: "We suggest you learn to love them."

I still love getting dandelion bouquets! Edie's nephew presents them to me every year and he's so proud because he picked them himself! And, you know what? I still blow on dandelions and send the seeds off into the breeze. I also appreciate dandelions because I know spring is really here and summer is coming when I see their presence.
Yellow Dandelions break up the green color of the lawn...Very very pretty!Nice post Angie,
I luv the kitty inserts!!!
They are one of the simple pleasures if we allow ourselves to see their beauty.
Except when they are white with their seed pods!!!!!!!!
hah, my husband will agree with you! He LOVES dandelions and he can't believe I ever thought they were weeds!
LOL It is all a matter of perception! Whether the dandelion is in the hand of a child or those blamed seed pods lifting their hoary locks!
That is great. We have two acres of supposed grass, that really looks like a field of dandelions to me. My honey tries hard, but...
I love the dandelion bouquets as well. With three boys I appreciate anytime I can feel feminine, even if it is with a corsage of weeds!

Hello, Cami! Yes, those little heartfelt gifts are the very best whether is it a rock, clover, or dandelion.
I have to remind myself how adorable my kiddos are, especially when they're screaming like they are right now! Is it wrong to lock myself in my office?
